Maternity Works

Maternity Works, a value-oriented maternity clothing store, has opened its newest location at SuperMall of the Great Northwest in Auburn. The store features name-brand apparel and caters to career-oriented mothers-to-be. Maternity Works is owned by Mothers Work Inc., a Philadelphia-based clothes company. It operates more than 450 stores.

Aramark Corporation

The Aramark Corporation, the food and beverage contractor for the Washington State Convention & Trade Center, has made the following staff appointments. Jennifer Eule has been promoted to operations director. In her new position, Eule will oversee the food and beverage activities and staff, and she will be responsible for planning and executing all the food service operations at the convention center. Cynthia Cadman has joined Aramark as catering sales manager. She will be responsible for developing local/regional corporate business and event planning with an emphasis on creating food and beverage revenue for Aramark. Jo Briscoe joins the company as catering sales director, Nicky Lee as assistant operations manager and Sandra Wilcox as concessions manager.

Laing Communications

Laing Research Services, a division of Redmond-based Laing Communications, has completed and published the only study of its kind on museum operations in the U.S. The 125-page report correlates visitorship with sale of catalogs and books at exhibits of all sizes and types. It includes 35 charts and tables as well as detailed written analysis of the research results and their meaning for museum operations. The third edition also includes a new section on museum economics and staffing. Laing Communications specializes in information services, research, and book and manual development for clients throughout the country.

University of Washington

The University of Washington Business School has made an agreement with Yonsei University in Seoul, South Korea, to create a Global Executive MBA program for top Korean executives from the LG Group, a $64 billion multinational conglomerate. The 15-month program, which begins in March, will require five months of coursework at Yonsei's Sangnam Center for Global Business followed by two months of language training and nine months of MBA classes at the University of Washington. The 30 executives who will participate in the inaugural class are mid- and senior level managers with LG Group. Marilyn Gist, a business professor at the UW, has been named as faculty director for the program.

PTI

Pacific Technologies Inc. (PTI), a Bellevue-based management consulting firm specializing in the development of business-driven technology plans and related implementation services, has appointed Bob Knaus as senior consultant. Knaus will perform quantitative and strategic analysis of business, technology, and organizational issues.

Bell Harbor Conference Center

The Port of Seattle's Bell Harbor International Conference Center has added Robert Taylor, Tina Timbang and Robyn Trapp to its staff. Taylor will serve as director of food and beverage, overseeing all catering and food services for the conference center. Trapp will serve as executive administrator and marketing specialist in the sales and marketing division, where she will assist with administrative duties and special marketing projects. Timbang will serve as a banquet sales assistant, where she will help market and plan special events and functions at Bell Harbor.

Moss Adams

Catherine Jean Gibson has rejoined the management advisory services division of the Seattle-based CPA firm of Moss Adams LLP as a senior trainer and consultant. The management advisory services division provides training to over 300,000 bankers, business owners and professionals throughout the U.S. and in 46 other countries.

Wham Communications

Wham Communications, a Seattle-based public relations firm, has appointed Charles Gelman as its chairman. Gelman will counsel existing clients and direct Wham's new business and professional development programs.

WSU Vancouver

Washington State University at Vancouver has named Jack Swearengen as program coordinator for a developing manufacturing engineering program. Swearengen will launch the university's proposed bachelor of science degree program in manufacturing engineering, which would be the first such program in the state once it is approved by WSU's faculty and the state's Higher Education Coordinating Board. He will see that the program is accredited, staffed and funded, and work closely with state and regional industry in developing the program. The proposed program is expected to be in place in the next academic year.

The Seattle Times

The Seattle Times Company has named Carolyn Kelly as general manager. Previously, Kelly served as senior vice president and chief financial officer. Retaining the title of senior vice president, Kelly will now oversee finance, advertising, corporate marketing, information services and human resources for The Seattle Times. Mike Fancher, senior vice president and executive editor, will take on an increased role in business development, focusing on new-media opportunities and overseeing efforts to use the World Wide Web to distribute news. These efforts will include continued development of online content and explorations of ways in which video and other technologies may impact the World Wide Web. Chuck Cochrane, publisher of the Yakima Herald-Republic, owned by The Times, has been promoted to senior vice president and will join the company's Executive Council.

WWU

Fluke Corporation of Everett, has given over $277,000 in sophisticated electronic design and testing instruments to the Campaign for Western to equip a new instrumentation laboratory at Western Washington University. When the lab is complete in February, there will be twelve Fluke electronics design and testing workstations. Headquartered in Everett, Fluke's products are distributed in more than 100 countries and are used by technicians and engineers in installation, maintenance, service, manufacturing test and quality functions in a variety of industries.
