Recreational Equipment, Inc. (REI) is opening its first Michigan store in Northville on Friday. The new 32,500-square-foot store, located in Northville Centre, will carry REI brand and national brand equipment, apparel and footwear for climbing, camping, cycling, paddling and wintersports. REI selected Northville to serve the Co-op's 10,000 members in Michigan.

Stevenson Slavin

Stevenson Slavin Advertising & Public Relations, Seattle, has hired Patrick Walker as account executive and Marni Hinthorne as bookkeeper/office manager.

One Sport

One Sport, Inc. of Seattle will contribute more than 1,300 pairs of rugged outdoor footwear to Northwest Medical Team's (NWMTI) next shipment of humanitarian aid to a hospital and orphanage in the City of Saransk in the newly formed Republic of Mardovia (formerly part of the Soviet Union) about 600 miles southeast of Moscow. One Sport, Inc. is a Seattle-based designer, manufacturer and distributor of hiking boots, trail-running shoes and other outdoor footwear.

The Freeland Group

The Freeland Group (TFG), a management consulting firm serving small to mid-size companies in the Pacific Northwest, has officially opened for business. Following a staff recruitment and training program, the Bellevue-based firm is now staffed by approximately 50 principals and associates representing a broad range of industry experience. Professional experience offered by the firm includes a range of business issues including cost control, strategic planning, sales and marketing, human resources, financial analysis, reorganization and restructuring, training and communications.

The Spokane Area Economic Development Council has launched a website. The EDC's website contains important business and relocation information. The Spokane Area EDC is a private, non-profit organization working to promote quality growth and development of the region's economy.

Geiser Grand Hotel

The Geiser Grand Hotel, an historic landmark located in Baker City, Ore., has hired Hank Hickox as the general manager of the property. The hotel, once the finest between Salt Lake City and Seattle, is currently under restoration. Hickox will also become a partner and president of Pacific Northwest Trading, the firm contracted to manage the Geiser. Based in Baker City, Pacific Northwest Trading will consult with and manage other hospitality properties throughout the region.
