Redd Becker has been promoted to director of sales and customer support at ScenicSoft, Inc. located in Everett. Becker will be responsible for the overall management of the sales, marketing and technical support efforts for the company's Everett and Brussels, Belgium offices. ScenicSoft develops imposition software for the pre-press and printing industry.
Staffing Sources, a Seattle-based provider of office support, has been acquired by AccuStaff Incorporated. AccuStaff, headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida, is a national provider of business services that include consulting, outsourcing, training and strategic services. Staffing Sources will continue to operate as an independent company, with the opportunity to offer its service nationally. Dave Martin is the president of Staffing Sources.
Paulette "Bea" Hagen has joined the law firm of Lane Powell Spears Lubersky LLP in Fairbanks as an associate. She will concentrate her practice in employment litigation, guardianship/conservatorship, and administrative law.
Over 35 Washington State food producers attended Food Marketing Institute's (FMI) US Food Export Showcase last week in Chicago. Over $3 million in sales were negotiated on the first day of the international event. More than 6000 buyers from around the world attended.
Northland Services, Inc. of Seattle announced that a management investor group has acquired ownership of the company from James Haagen, and the Dunlap and Campbell Towing Companies. The investor group is led by Edwin Spaunhurst and Barry Hachler, two long time executives with the company. Northland was founded by Haagen in 1978, along with Dunlap Towing Company of La Conner and Campbell Towing Company of Wrangell, Alaska. The company is a provider of marine transportation services between the Puget Sound, Alaska and the Pacific Rim.
Kaufer Miller Communications (KMC), a Redmond-based public relations firm serving consumer, wireless and business to business companies, has added the following clients: CacheFlow Inc., FutureSoft Inc., Go Ahead Software Inc., Multiple Zones International Inc., TechWave Inc. and Northwest Nexus.
Group Health Credit Union (GHCU) has formed an alliance with American Express Financial Advisors (AEFA), offering comprehensive financial services to its members. This is the first alliance with AEFA in Washington State. AEFA is a diversified financial services company offering financial planning and other investment advisory services to nearly two million individual and business clients.

William Weaver has been appointed president of Puget Sound Energy, the company formed by the merger earlier this year of Puget Sound Power & Light Co. and Washington Energy Co. Weaver was executive vice president and chief financial officer of Puget Power. Stephen McKeon, a partner with the Perkins Coie law firm, has been named vice president and general counsel at Puget Sound Energy.
Bellevue-based Cucina! Cucina! Inc., an Italian restaurant chain, has hired Mike Jaglois as senior vice president of marketing and Jonathan Pearlstein as real estate and construction attorney.
Jim Boatman has been named executive director of Stafford Suites Assisted Living Apartments in Kent. Stafford Suites is a development by Kent-based Ostrom Management, and is expected to be completed in August.
Beverly Copeland has joined the medical staff at Pacific Medical Clinics in Totem Lake. Her medical interests include preventive medicine, women's health care and health education.
Bellevue-based Metapath Software Corporation, a telecommunications software provider, will begin selling and supporting its products in Asia Pacific, Australia and New Zealand. Bob Christensen will act as director of Asia Pacific sales. Metapath has also announced the opening of its subsidiary in Windsor, United Kingdom. Andrew Gadsby has been appointed European technical director.
The 1997 Mayor's Small Business Award winners will be announced on June 4 at a dinner in the Grand Ballroom at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel and Towers. DyceFriend, a Seattle-based public relations agency, has hired Christie McClellan as office manager.
Veteran restaurateurs Jim Malevitsis and Richard Malia anticipate that their new Belltown restaurant, Axis, will be open for the Summer Solstice. Axis, located at 2212 First Avenue in Seattle, will incorporate wood burning ovens, rotisseries and grills to feature the food of the restaurant's executive chef Alvin Binuya, also the executive chef at Ponti Seafood Grill. Malevitsis is the owner of Adriatica and a partner with Malia in Ponti Seafood Grill.
Beginning in June, the Red Lion Hotel Bellevue will change its name to Doubletree Hotel Bellevue. Doubletree Hotels purchased Red Lion Hotels in November of 1996, forming the fourth largest hotel company in the United States.
Safeco Corporation has approved more than $485,000 in grants to Washington nonprofit organizations. Major beneficiaries include Corporate Council for the Arts, Elderhealth Northwest, the Seattle Opera, Ryther Child Center, Seattle Habitat for Humanity, Center for Community Services/Urban Enterprise Center and the Alliance for Education.
