Susan Byers has been appointed acting executive director of human resources for Seattle Public Schools. A national search will be conducted for a permanent director. Byers was formerly the director of customer service for Seattle Schools.
Clipper Navigation, th Seattle-based operator of Victoria Clippers and the Princess Marguerite III vehicle and passenger ferry, has hired Bryan Waltz as sales manager and Roberta Montney as group tour coordinator. Waltz will be responsible for sales to incentive travel groups, associations, destination management companies and corporations both locally and nationally. Montney will coordinate and creating personalized tour packages for groups planning excursions throughout the Pacific Northwest.
Virginia Mason Medical Center has added its 23rd clinic to its network of neighborhood and community-based care delivery system. The new clinic is North cascade Family Physicians, located in Mount Vernon. It has a staff of 45 including nine physicians and provides a full range of services including family practice, obstetrics, pediatrics, and offers on-site lab services, radiology, and mammography. Roger F. Harbin, senior vice president for Safeco Life Insurance Companies, was appointed executive vice president. Safeco is headquartered in Seattle and has operation sin property and casualty insurance as well as a variety of financial services.

The law firm of Karr Tuttle Campbell has added associates Jennifer A. Burkhardt, Che Carlyle Dawson, Susan K. McIntosh, and Randall L. Price. Burkhardt will practice in litigation and employment relations. Dawson will specialize in immigration law. McIntosh will practice in the litigation and health care law group. Price will practice in the business and corporate finance department.

Linda Blohm Clapham has been elected partner at the law firm Lane Powell Spears Lubersky in the Seattle office, where she concentrates her practice in the areas of appellate, environmental coverage and insurance defense litigation.
Virginia Mason received a $750,000 endowment for a clinical research chair and named Daniel Furst to the position. Earnings from the endowment will support faculty and clinical researchers in their work on the immune system and translate findings into patient care. Furst is director of the VMRC Arthritis Clinical Research Unit.
Clothier & Head, a Seattle-based public accounting firm, has hired Richard Finafrock as supervisory senior.
The Washington State Department of Transportation has added a new webpage to its website. The new webpage contains information on bicycle and pedestrian safety, planning, research, design, maintenance and funding. It can be found by scrolling to and clicking on "Highways and Local Roadways" and then clicking on the "Pedestrian" or the "Bicycle" button. The site address is http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/hlrd/.
Fatigue Technology, a Tukwila-based manufacturer of patented and proprietary products sold to the aerospace industry for extending the fatigue life of metal structures, has promoted David J. Coddington to vice president of marketing and contracts. Coddington will also be reponsible for program management of large-scale military programs. Coddington formerly served as manager of the firm's marketing department.
Cole & Weber, an advertising, direct marketing, interactive and public relations firm with offices in Seattle and Portland, has added four new employees to its Portland office. Patty Evans has been hired as a senior account executive, Hart Rusen as a copywriter, Loralee Bruse as an assistant account executive, and Michael Hazelrigg as a project coordinator.
Charles Bates has been promoted from senior internal auditor at Paccar to director of field human resources at Bellevue-based Paccar Automotive. Bates will be responsible for all human resource activities at the firm's distribution centers and parts and service stores.
