Community Transit, based in Lynnwood, has elected a new board of directors and officers. Councilmember Jeanne A. Edwards will serve as board chair and Councilman Dave Earling will serve as board vice-chair. Joining the board are Snohomish County Councilmember Rick Larsen; Mayor Matthew McCune of Stanwood; Councilmember Ruth Kapetan from Mill Creek; and Councilmember Lynn Walty from Lake Stevens. Reappointed board members include Councilmembers Pat Cordova, Otto Herman, Gary Nelson, Sharon Rutherford, Ned Daniels and Dick Van Hollebeke. Community Transit's board of directors is comprised of elected officials selected by the respective governing bodies of the component cities with the service area.
Coinstar Inc., based in Bellevue, has begun the installation of more than 250 of its self-service coin counting machines in Vons supermarket locations throughout Southern California. Coinstar Inc. develops, owns and operates a nationwide network of more than 3,400 automated, self-service coin counting and processing machines.
Sports Etc., the Seattle-based monthly multi-sport magazine, has added Dan Engel as editor at the Queen Anne Hill office, and Sarah Bott as manager of the new Portland office. Sports Etc. distributes 40,000 copies every month at gyms, bookstores, bike shops, sporting goods retailers, events and on all Washington ferries. Smart Productions, a Portland-based animation services firm, has begun managing the Emerald Outdoor signs, three electronic billboards in Washington state. Located north of Tacoma on I-5 and in Wenatchee, the signs use LEDs to produce three-dimensional graphics. The agreement with Smart Productions includes monthly maintenance and creation of up to 12 animations a month for each sign. Washington Economic Development Finance Authority Scott L. Hardman, a investment banker with Alexander Hutton, has been appointed chair of the Washington Economic Development Finance Authority. William Glassford, a senior vice president and manager of the international division at Seafirst Bank, has retired as chair after four years of service.
Gray Line of Seattle has been recognized by the Washington State Department of Community, Trade and Economic Development as a leader, innovator and success story in their publication "Finding the Balance: Economic Prosperity and Environmental Progress Volume II." The publication highlights Washington companies that practice environmentally responsible behavior. Gray Line, specializing in tours and vacation packages, redeveloped a formerly contaminated property and building a new $7.5-million-dollar headquarters housing environmentally friendly features. The Greenbrier Companies has executed a definitive agreement to acquire a majority interest in Fabryka Wagonow Swidnica S.A., a railcar and specialty container manufacturer in Swidnica, Poland. The acquisition is subject to final approval by Polish governmental agencies. The Greenbrier Companies, headquartered in Lake Oswego, Oregon, is a leading supplier of intermodal and conventional transportation equipment and services to the railroad industry in North America.
Xypoint, a Seattle-based firm specializing in using wireless technology to locate mobile people and objects, has appointed Gregg Blodgett vice president and chief financial officer. Blodgett, a public accountant, will be responsible for accounting, administration, human resources, risk management and treasury functions. LaMar Hansen has been named president and CEO of the Swanson-Dean/Daewoo Partnership, developers of Providence Point in Issaquah. Hansen was vice president of construction for ten years.
Wosca Transportation Services has appointed Kathleen Carr account representative in the North Seattle region, and Elizabeth Driscoll account representative in the South Seattle region. Carr was formerly an account representative with Silver Eagle in Kent. Driscoll formerly worked for P&L Ned Lloyd, a steamship container company. Wosca Transportation Services, based in Seattle, has a network of terminals across the U.S. serving over 2,000 large and small shippers.
The Seattle Central Community College Foundation has selected Dan McConnell as chairman of its board of directors. McConnell has been a board member for nine years and formerly served as vice president of finance and marketing. McConnell is senior vice president and managing director at Elgin DDB, a Seattle-based advertising and public relations firm. Other new officers include vice president for development Yvonne Banks, vice president for marketing Doug Williams, vice president for finance Anne M. Redman, and vice president for board governance Bill Grinstein.
Bozell/Seattle president Pete Hatt was named to Bozell Worldwide's Management Board. Hatt, formerly CEO of Borders, Perrin & Norrander, received the appointment after he helped engineer the merger between Borders, Perrin & Norrander and CF2GS, forming Bozell/Seattle. With 70 employees and estimated 1998 billings of $75 million, Bozell/Seattle is among the top three advertising agencies in the Seattle region.
Stacy Bollen has been selected to be the manager for the recent addition to Gene Juarez Salons & Spas at Redmond Town Center. Lisha Sissons, former assistant manager of the Alderwood salon, has transferred to the Redmond Salon & Spa as assistant manager. Bollen was formerly manager at the Tacoma Gene Juarez salon. Washington Biotechnology & Biomedical Association Tom Ranken, formerly of Seattle's Washington Biotechnology & Biomedical Association, has resigned as president, having accepted a position as president and CEO of Seattle-based SERC - Statistics and Epidemiology Research Corporation. SERC is a clinical research organization that provides a comprehensive range of data management, statistical services, and clinical trial experience to pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and biomedical industries. Ranken, who has been president of WBBA for three years, will start SERC on March 30th, but will be in the office as needed until the board appoints a successor. Snohomish County executive Bob Drewel has been elected to a one-year term as president of the Puget Sound Regional Council. The Regional Council develops policies and coordinates decisions about regional growth and transportation in King, Pierce, Snohomish and Kitsap counties. Drewel has served as vice president of the council for one year. Renton City Councilman Bob Edwards was elected vice president.
