The Seattle chapter of The Association for Women in Communications will hold its annual Matrix Table dinner event at 5:30 p.m., May 6th, at the Westin Hotel in downtown Seattle. This year's Matrix Table will feature mystery writer J.A. Jance as its speaker and honor six "Women of Achievement" and one company with a "Corporate Excellence Award." The women to be honored include Barbara Hedges, University of Washington Director of Athletics; Irene Harvitz, community activist for the disabled; Melissa Hines, managing director of the Empty Space Theatre; Judith Billings, former state superintendent of public instruction and founder of Targeted Alliances; Sharon Elliott, senior vice president of human resources, Starbucks Coffee Company; and K.D. Hallman, director-I.T.G, Microsoft Corporation. The company to be honored is the Boeing Employees' Credit Union. Cost is $60 per person and $40 for students. WHaM Communications, a Northwest marketing public relations firm, has added three new accounts. Decibel Instruments, Inc., Freemont, Calif., Orthodontics Centers of America, headquartered in Jacksonville, Florida, and advertising agency Bozell Worldwide Seattle have all retained WHaM to provide ongoing public relations counsel.
Beth Pascarella has been named media manager for Ad Mark Services, a Seattle-based advertising and marketing services agency. Pascarella was formerly the media buyer and account manager for Westco Marketing.

Lawrence J. Steele has been elected partner at the law firm Lane Powell Spears Lubersky in the Seattle office. Steele focuses his practice on corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, securities and general corporate law.
The Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce has promoted Rachel Wong to membership development manager and hired Linda Jewett as a membership development representative. Wong will be responsible for the direction and coordination of committee management, customer service, dues collection and other activities to enhance the retention and recruitment of members. Wong previously worked as a program coordinator. Jewett will be responsible for membership sales and retention and customer service. Jewett previously worked as a sales and marketing manager for Spill Management and Response Training Institute. The Greater Seattle Chamber of Commerce is a nonprofit organization that serves as a resource for business, a public affairs advocate and a community partner.
Cascade Designs Inc. of Seattle, makers of Therm-a-Rest self-inflating camping mattresses and other outdoor recreation gear, has hired Rich Anton as director of marketing. Anton was previously a marketing manager for Eddie Bauer.
Pacifica Bank (In Organization) has applied with the FDIC and Washington state bank regulators for a state bank charter. When final approval is received, Pacifica Bank will establish its headquarters in Bellevue to serve small- and medium-sized businesses in the Puget Sound area. Pacifica Bank will open in the Skyline Tower Lobby at 10900 N.E. 4th Street in downtown Bellevue. An Offering Circular will be available to interested investors. Pacifica is planning to raise between $12 and $15 million in capital, making it among the highest capitalized new bank offerings in the state. Booth Creek Ski Holdings, Inc., promoted Laura B. Moriarty to corporate vice president of human resources. Moriarty will be responsible for the administration and strategic direction of Booth Creek's human resources function, including employee development, executive staffing, training, compensation, benefits, and internal communications for all of Booth Creek's resorts. Booth Creek Ski Holdings is comprised of eight resorts in California, New Hampshire, Wyoming, and the four Summit at Snoqualmie areas in Washington.
Metawave Communications Corporation, a Redmond-based provider of spectrum management systems for the wireless industry, has named Scot B. Jarvis to its board of directors. Jarvis is most prominently known for his work in acquisitions and development at McCaw Cellular Communications. Jarvis also serves on the board of directors for Nextlink Communications, Inc., PulsePoint Communications, Inc., Wireless Facilities, Inc., and Xypoint Corporation.
