Paul Ishizukarecently joined the University of Washington Medical Center as associate administrator and chief financial officer. Ishizuka succeeds Dennis Stillman, who now teaches in the Graduate School of Business Administration and oversees special projects for the medical center. Ishizuka has been chief financial officer for Stevens Healthcare since 1990. Karen Roti was recently named director of marketing for the Medical Center. Roti formerly assisted with opening the UW Physicians Network of nine neighborhood clinics in Seattle.
PhotoDisc, the Seattle-based stock photography brand of Getty Images, recently appointed William R. Derrick vice president of e-commerce. Derrick formerly worked at Wall Data and Prodigy Services Co.
The Washington Society of CPAs will present Rhona Kwiram, CPA and principal at Bellevue's Clark Nuber, with the 1999 Conference Chairman of the Year Award during the 10th annual People Make a Difference Awards Banquet on June 4 at Cavanaugh's Inn. Kwiram recently acted as chair of the 1998 not-for-profit conference sub-committee.
The Washington State Senate recently passed a resolution honoring employees of the Washington Department of Natural Resources for voluntarily raising nearly $2,000 to purchase timber for the masts of the historic replica of the Amistad, a schooner used to transport African slaves in 1839. Nine suitable pieces of Douglas fir timber have already been selected from trust lands. By 2000, the ship will be sailing to ports around America as a floating classroom for race and human rights issues.

Andy Bott has been named General Counsel for Trendwest Resorts. Bott formerly served as Senior Counsel for the Northwest-based timeshare company.
Douglas S. Morrison recently joined the law firm of Lane Powell Spears Lubersky in the Seattle office as partner. Morrison, formerly with Bogle & Gates, concentrates his practice in environmental and natural resources law.
Cascade Water Alliance, a water governance group established to provide water utilities with a voice in water policies, formed in March 1999 and named its officers: Chuck Mosher, chair; Alan Merkle, vice chair; and Al Blanchard, secretary-treasurer. Its members currently include Skyway Water and Sewer District and the cities of Bellevue, Kirkland and Mercer Island. The alliance is negotiating a 50-year drinking water contract with the city of Seattle. Member agencies will have a representative vote in all contract issues and development of new drinking water sources. All Seattle purveyors and urban area utilities within King County are eligible for membership.
The Experimental Gallery, a program offering service-based learning through the arts to young people incarcerated in Washington state's juvenile justice system, was recently named one of 98 semifinalists in the 1999 competition for the Innovations in American Government Program.
The Association of Women in Communications, Seattle professional chapter, recently presented Women of Achievement awards to State Attorney General Christine Gregoire, Pamela Eakes, founder and president of Mothers Against Violence in America; Maureen Hoban, Tulalip Tribe educator; Ruth Ittner, hiking activist and advocate; Mary Randlett, documentary photographer; Nasreen Rehmat, owner of Parfumerie Nasreen; and Helen Thayer, explorer, athlete and author. Immunex, a Seattle-based biotechnology firm, received the Corporate Excellence Award. Susanna Tull received the Georgina McDougall Davis Award. Kelly M. Kirkland and Carrina Galloway received student scholarships.
Direct Buying Service has relocated to a new 8,500-square-foot store at 1749 First Ave. S. in Seattle. The move from 915 Fourth Ave. was due to the renovation of the downtown YMCA and construction of an adjacent office tower. The 49-year-old company caters to the general public as well as designers, architects and contractors, supplying home and office appliances, plumbing, electronics and housewares. The owners, Jim and Jeff Freedman, say the new store will allow them to expand displays and offer a design center for clients.
