Jan Simon has been named executive vice president of the Washington State Hotel & Motel Association. Simon brings more than 20 years experience to the new position, most recently serving for the past four years as executive director of the Washington State Chiropractic Association.
Vonda Sheiman, general manager of The Inns at Friday Harbor, was honored by the Washington Association of Convention & Visitors Bureaus as Tourism Advocate of the Year. The award was presented to Sheiman at the 1999 Washington State Tourism Conference. Sheiman was recognized as an individual who has significantly influenced public perception of Washington as a travel destination.
Red Dot Corp., a Seattle-based developer and manufacturer of mobile heating and air conditioning systems, named Bruce Channer to the position of vice president of sales and marketing. Channer has been with the company full-time since 1971, most recently serving as vice president of finance.
Potlatch Corp., a forest products company with timberland in Idaho, Arkansas and Minnesota, announced the retirement of management information systems vice president F. Lynn Martin and the appointment of Dave Ohms as his replacement. Ohms has been Minnesota procurement manager for the company's resource management group and has been with Potlatch since 1979.
Primus, a Seattle-based e-service software and service provider, announced the signing of a merger agreement with privately held Imparto Software, an e-marketing solutions provider based in Palo Alto, Calif. Primus will acquire all outstanding stock of Imparto in exchange for one million shares of Primus common stock. The combined company will have approximately 225 employees worldwide and more than 85 customers including 3M, 3Com, Compaq and Novell.
ELF, an Internet-based collaborative legal technology company on Mercer Island, announced the hiring of 52 members to the company team. The increase in personnel is in support of ELF's mission to provide Internet-delivered products and services to the legal community.
Haggen, a Bellingham-based company that operates 22 independent supermarkets and grocery stores, announced that it has reached an agreement with Blockbuster in which several of Haggen and TOP Foods video departments have been leased to Blockbuster. The first phase of converting the video space to Blockbuster stores is scheduled to be complete by the end of the year. New stores will go into the Haggen Food and Drug in Ferndale and Mount Vernon and the TOP Food & Drug stores in Everett, East Wenatchee, Edmonds and Auburn, with additional stores to be announced in the future

Ellis Paguirigan Designs, a Olympia-based design firm, has appointed Daniel Springer to its newly created position of website developer. Springer has eight years of industry experience including four years of website engineering at Signature Media and Springer Design.
Jason P. Loble, formerly with Preston Gates & Ellis, where he assisted public and private companies with mergers and acquisitions, has joined the Bellevue office of Davis Wright Tremaine as an associate. Loble will continue to focus on mergers and acquisitions along with contract structuring and corporate governance.
Moore & Associates, an organizational consulting firm with offices in Seattle and Bellevue, has opened an office in Portland, Ore. The company has appointed Todd Martin as vice president and director of operations. Martin is formerly a client executive with IBM.
Jeff Minton, a PGA golf professional, has been named head golf professional at the Golf Club at Newcastle. Director of golf Michael W.C. Abbott has assumed additional responsibilities as general manager for Newcastle and as director of operations for Oki Developments, whose portfolio includes four golf courses in the Puget Sound region. Brian Lally, a golf professional since 1988, joined Newcastle as director of instruction.
P. Arley Harrel and Rudy A. Englund of Seattle were named by the American Bar Association Section of Litigation as co-chairs of the section's annual meeting to be held in Seattle, April 5-8, 2000. Harrel is a member of the law firm of Williams, Kastner & Gibbs where he emphasizes his practice on litigation and general business counseling. Englund is a partner in the law firm of Lane Powell Spears Lubersky where he emphasizes class action and complex commercial and intellectual property litigation
