Aventail Corp. of Seattle added Christopher Roling as chief financial officer. Roling has more than 18 years experience in the business, including CFO of Getty Images, Inc. and senior financial positions at Kellogg Co., R.J. Reynolds International and PepsiCo International. He will mange the company's financial, administrative and legal activities. Aventail provides Internet-based business partner networks.
Gary F. Tucker, president and CEO of Pope Resources and it subsidiary Olympic Resource Management, has announced his retirement. Tucker joined Pope Resources as president and CEO in 1996. Prior to that, he was head of Trees, Inc., the director of operations of the Hancock Timber Resource Group. Board members Peter Pope and Doug Norberg will play active roles in day-to-day management until Tucker's replacement is found. Olympic Resource Management oversees more than 600,000 acres of timberland and development property in the Northwest.
William W. Zuppe, president of Sterling Savings Bank announced the launch of Sterling Net Banking, a new Internet banking service. The bank's Web site is http://www.sterlingsavingsbank.net. Services include home and business banking as well as electronic bill payment. No special software is required. Based in Spokane, Sterling Savings Bank has branches throughout the Northwest.
Rolling Thunder Marketing of Kirkland, a high-tech public relations firm, has added eight new employees. Joining the public relations firm are Kelli Quinn, human resources manager; Lian Weiland, senior account coordinator; Shari Wardinsky, senior account coordinator; Tom Issacson, account manager; Jamie Stafford, senior account manager; Jared Ruckle, senior account coordinator, Eli Jaeger, senior account coordinator, and Alex Pietsch, broadcast manager. To accommodate growth, Rolling Thunder Marketing plans to move its offices from Kirkland to the Canyon Park facility in Bothell. By the end of the year, Rolling Thunder Marketing plans to grow from 32 to 60 members.
BroadcastZone Inc. of Seattle has announced the appointment of Scott Ferris to president and chief executive officer. Ferris comes to the company from Starbucks Corp. where he served as vice president and general manager of Starbucks Direct. BroadcastZone is an application service provider aimed at delivering solutions to improve the on-line shopping experience.
Alan Van Boven, president and CEO of nPassage of Seattle, announced the addition of three top executives. Chris Larkin was appointed vice president of product development, Lloyd Sanford was appointed vice president of client services, and Robert Wallace was appointed vice president of business development. nPassage is an on-line transportation resource for managing freight shipments across all transportation modes.
The Seattle office of Publicis Dialog, a public relations and direct marketing firm, has announced the addition of Aimee Knox as senior account executive and Valerie Hwang as assistant account executive. Receiving a promotion to account executive is Thuy Luu-Beams.

David R. Koopmans, managing partner of Short Cressman & Burgess law offices in Seattle announced the addition of Bradley P. Thoreson as a partner and Karen L. Kendrick as associate. Thoreson previously worked for the Seattle law firm of Jameson Babbitt Stites & Lombard. His practice is concentrated in litigated real estate and construction matters, with a specialty in commercial transactions, owner/contractor/architect disputes and owner environmental contribution claims. Kendrick previously worked for the Seattle firm of Young deNormandie & Oscarsson. She will expand the firm's real estate practice, specializing in representing lenders in commercial real estate transactions. Kendrick will also represent property owners and investors in real estate and financing issues.
Jami Poe has been appointed national account sales manager for Kimpton Hotel Group Seattle. Before coming to Kimpton in 1999, Poe was director of corporate sales for Promus Hotels of Seattle. The Kimpton Hotel Group Seattle operates the Alexis Hotel, Hotel Monaco and Hotel Vintage Park.
The King County Bar Association has elected new officers and members of the Board of Trustees. President is Frederick L. Noland, first vice president is Ralph Maimon, second vice president is Caroline D. Davis, secretary/trustee is Susan K. McIntosh. New Central District trustees are Ronald J. Knox and Eugene D. Seligmann.
Gary Hayden, senior vice president and investment officer of Dain Rauscher's Seattle office, has been named to the firm's 1 Percent Club. Ron Arbour has been appointed executive chef of the new Royal Argosy, Argosy Cruises' and Consolidated Restaurants' new fine dining ship. Arbour has more than 25 years experience in culinary arts, and will manage and oversee the floating restaurant's menu. Arbour previously worked for Consolidated Restaurants as executive chef at Union Square Grill, Seattle and as executive chef at Metropolitan Grill Catering.
Seattle-Northwest Securities has announced its new Web-enabled online underwriting system. The system was used recently to help the Sumner School District with the sale of a $34 million bond issue. The system allowed investors and bond buyers to review the Preliminary Official Statement for bond sales, get information about interest rates, place orders and receive confirmation online. The bonds will help the district pay for construction of its second high school.
Eastern Washington University will offer an online paralegal certificate course beginning June 5. The paralegal profession was ranked one of the top growing professions for 2000, with at least 75,000 new job openings in the next eight years. EWU's curriculum was designed by professor Scott Hatch, founder of The Center for Legal Studies.
