Encompass Ventures announced the appointment of Paul Budak as senior associate. Budak is responsible for analyzing potential investment opportunities, structuring venture capital investments and monitoring portfolio companies. Encompass Ventures is a Bellevue-based venture capital firm that focuses on information technology investments. Budak comes to Encompass from BSquare Corp., where he was a member of the software group's management team.
BDO Seidman Seattle, a tax consulting organization and CPA firm, announced the appointment of Steve Cox as assurance business line leader for the western region. Cox is now responsible for overseeing the financial performance and service delivery of the assurance practice, working with the assurance partners and staff to bring national resources and knowledge to each office's local market.
Saltmine, a Seattle-based integrated services firm specializing in the creation of online solutions, announced that Matthew Leavenworth has been named managing director of its Chicago office. The Chicago office was opened to serve the companies midwestern and east coast clients. The office is currently staffed with Saltmine employees from the Seattle and London offices.
Paracom Inc., a Seattle-based telecommunications company announced the opening of The Business Center at the Honolulu International Airport, as of Jan. 1. Located in the main terminal, The Business Center provides high-speed Internet access to the traveling public, as well as workstations, fax and copy services. Letter or parcel delivery is offered through the U.S. Postal Service, UPS or Fed-Ex. Long distance phone cards, cellular phones and accessories, along with office supplies and merchandise geared towards the business traveler are also available. The first quarter of 2001 is the anticipated opening of a second location in the Diamond Head Concourse.

Applied Microsystems, a Redmond-based provider of technologies and software development tools that expedite complex software projects, announced the appointment of Intel executive Charles House as chairman of the board. A board member since 1998, House currently serves as the director of societal impact of technology for Intel. He has been executive vice president of communications research for Intel's dialogic division in New Jersey for the past two years.
Concur Technologies, a Redmond-based provider of corporate expense management solutions, announced the promotion of four executives. The promotions include Stephen Yount to chief operating officer, John Adair to chief financial officer, Michael Hilton to chief technology officer, and Rajeev Singh to executive vice president of sales, marketing and service. Yount joined Concur in June 2000 as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Adair joined Concur in May 2000 as vice president of finance and administration. Hilton and Singh are co-founders of Concur.
