Horton Lantz Marocco, a Seattle-based advertising agency, announced the following additions and promotions to its interactive team: Robert Holmes, director of interactive services, has more than nine years of experience running interactive and production groups; Rebecca Nick, director of interactive strategy, is responsible for program ownership, new business procurement and consultation services; Ariel Martin, executive producer, will produce interactive projects including Web, kiosks and digital video; Shelley Bjornstad, interactive producer, completes interactive projects including CDs, interactive ads and kiosks; Michael Van Schepen, promoted to associate producer of interactive, will produce interactive programs; Brent LaMotte, development manager, comes to the company from Nordstrom.com where he served as production manager; and, Elizabeth Gonzales, Web developer, will create Web and CD-ROM components.

Larina Davis has been named senior analyst at Highland Capital Management, a Bellevue-based wealth management company. Davis will provide portfolio diversification and risk analysis services for Highland's clients. Previously, she was a member of Merrill Lynch's high net worth group in Bellevue.

Kitsap District Court

Members of the Washington State Board for Judicial Administration elected Kitsap County District Court Judge James Riehl as member-chair. The decision marks the first time in state history that a district court judge will co-chair the statewide judicial administration board in cooperation with the chief justice of the Supreme Court. The BJA is charged with the adoption of policies and providing leadership for the administration of justice in Washington courts.

Szmania's

Szmania's restaurant opened at the Kirkland Waterfront Market on May 16. The restaurant is owned and operated by Ludger and Julie Szmania (pronounced "smahn-yas"). Ludger Szmania served as executive chef of the Four Seasons Olympic in Seattle until he and his wife opened Szmania's in Seattle's Magnolia neighborhood in 1990. Szmania's Lake Street in Kirkland is their first expansion

Garvey, Schubert & Barer

The Seattle law firm of Garvey, Schubert & Barer announced that Kerry Radcliffe has rejoined the firm as a principal, and Karen Bertram has been named a principal. Sevilla C.P. Claydon and Michael Brick have joined as associates. Radcliffe concentrates her practice on corporate law and commercial transactions. Bertram focuses on trusts and estates. Claydon practices primarily in labor and employment matters, and Brick focuses on corporate and international law.

RiverPlace Hotel

Dean Vacheresse has joined Portland's RiverPlace Hotel as director of food and beverage. Vacheresse will oversee all food and beverage operations, which includes the Esplande, the bar, private dining and seasonal outdoor riverfront dining.

Fleetfoot Messenger Service

Fleetfoot Messenger Service, a Seattle-based courier service, announced its return to a local owner after three years of being part of a national delivery company. The company's president Gary Brose, who owned the company for 17 years before selling it to DMS in 1998, repurchased it earlier this month. Brose started the company in 1980. The company will make its four millionth delivery this month.

Western Washington University

Bela Foltin will become university librarian at Western Washington University in July. Foltin is currently dean of the library and learning resources center at Northeastern State University in Oklahoma. In his new position, he will lead a staff of 65 full-time employees and 85 part-time student employees at the Bellingham university.

Heller Ehrman

Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe announced the addition of Brian Hulse as a lateral shareholder in its Seattle law office. Hulse joins the firm's financial services national practice group. He brings extensive knowledge and experience in financial services, real estate and insolvency matters to his new position.

American Economic Development Council

The American Economic Development Council announced that Juli Wilkerson, director of economic development for the city of Tacoma, is the recipient of its 2001 Outstanding New Developer of the Year Award. Wilkerson was instrumental in streamlining the downtown code, helping retain key businesses in Tacoma and spearheading the "Tacoma: America's #1 Wired City" marketing campaign
