University of Puget Sound

University of Puget Sound appointed David Beers vice president for university relations. Beers was an assistant vice president at Colby College in Waterville, Maine. He will start in September and will work on implementing a campus master plan that includes construction of a new science lab, a health sciences center and an alumni center.

Saint Martin's College

Lacey-based Saint Martin's College named Douglas M. Astolfi president. He replaces David R. Spangler, who recently retired. Astolfi will work on the college's transition to a university, set to happen in August. He was vice president for academic affairs at Florida's Saint Leo University.

Williams, Kastner & Gibbs

Robert Manlowe of Williams, Kastner & Gibbs' Seattle office was elected to the board of directors of the International Association of Defense Counsel. The association of lawyers represents corporations and insurers. Manlowe's practice involves crisis management, media relations and complex litigation.

Snohomish County PUD

The Snohomish County PUD recently won top honors from the International Association of Business Communicators for exposing corporate corruption by releasing audiotapes from Enron. The PUD generated international news coverage with the tapes that showed Enron had defrauded consumers in the western United States of more than $1 billion. The PUD was competing against almost 1,000 other entries.

Banner Bank

Banner Bank named Joseph Vasen vice president and commercial loan officer for its downtown Seattle market. Vasen was a commercial banker at Washington Mutual's commercial banking division and Peoples Bank. He also spent six years in the U.S. Army and has a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Washington. Banner Corp. is the parent of Walla Walla-headquartered Banner Bank.

Ambassadors Group

The Spokane-based educational travel company Ambassadors Group appointed Chadwick J. Byrd chief financial officer. Byrd has 10 years of experience as a senior financial executive, including work with Fred Olsen Energy ASA in Oslo, Norway. He replaces Colleen McCann-Lillie, who resigned but will remain with the company as chief financial officer of the company's subsidiary, Ambassador Programs.

Wells Fargo

Wells Fargo named Joyce Javonillo manager of its Rainier Avenue store. She leads a 10-member team at 3100 Rainier Ave. Sue Lee manages a store in Safeway in Capitol Hill, at 1410 E. John St. Jay Schwandt manages a Crown Hill store located at 8340 15th Ave. N.W

Microvision

Bothell-based Microvision named Alex Tokman president and chief operating officer. Tokman was general manager of a unit of GE Healthcare. Steve Willey was Microvision's president for three years and will now oversee consumer solutions. Microvision develops scanned beam displays and imaging products.

Betts, Patterson & Mines

Steve Block, a partner with the Seattle law firm Betts, Patterson & Mines, was recently named president of the Association of Transportation Law Professionals, a trade organization with 600 laywers and other transportation professionals. Block has 19 years of litigation and business law experience, with a focus on transportation, customs and business matters.

Pacific Lutheran University

Stephen Cornils will be vice president for development and university relations at Pacific Lutheran University this fall. Jim Plourde was acting vice president and will continue as executive director of development. Pacific Lutheran University has plans to renovate historic Eastvold Hall and start fundraising for a new building to house radio station KPLU
