Senior Services

Senior Services won the 2013 Alfred P. Sloan Award for Excellence in Workplace Effectiveness and Flexibility. The award is part of a national project called When Work Works intended to educate businesses about the value of flexible policies. The nonprofit also won the award in 2010. Karen Beisner of Senior Services said flexible schedules and family-friendly policies are good for both employees and the organization, which serves more than 61,000 elders every year.

Frause

Frause, a Northwest communications firm, has promoted Callen Flaherty to creative services project manager. Flaherty will now serve as the primary liaison and day-to-day contact for a number of clients, communicating about projects, strategies and recommendations from the design team. Her client list includes BlueVolt, Downtown Seattle Association and Talon Portfolio Services.

McReynolds

The law firm of Schwabe, Williamson & Wyatt hired Lindsey McReynolds as chief client relations officer. McReynolds worked at Clothier & Head PS (now Peterson Sullivan) as business development and client relations director, and also was business development administrator at Perkins Coie in Seattle.

Bainbridge Island

Bainbridge Island said it has the strongest online business community in Washington so it was named Google's 2013 “eCity” for this state. Google and the research firm Ipsos analyzed small businesses in U.S. cities, looking at whether they have a website, use a blog, promote themselves on social networks, sell goods directly from their webpages and have mobile-friendly websites.

Miller Nash

Intellectual property attorney Kathleen Petrich joined Miller Nash as a partner in Seattle. She focuses on intellectual property rights, including protection and enforcement, and has experience in patents, trademarks, copyrights, licensing, IP litigation and green tech.

Nomura

Phyllis Nomura joined First Sound Bank as executive vice president and chief financial officer. She was executive vice president and CFO for Core Business Bank, and began her career in 1994 with Deloitte. Nomura has also worked for First Security Bank of Washington, Viking Bank and Washington Mutual.

Western Washington University

A $500,000 gift from Western Washington University alumnus and retired Microsoft vice president David W. Cole and his wife, Denise, will allow WWU to hire its first professor of entrepreneurship. The David Cole Professor of Entrepreneurship will be part of the College of Business and Economics. The goal is to help graduates start successful organizations and create jobs. Cole worked on development of Windows, Internet Explorer and MSN.com.

Allied Law Group attorney Michele L. Earl-Hubbard was recently selected 2014 Lawyer of the Year for First Amendment Law in the Seattle area by Best Lawyers guide.

Lawyers are selected based on peer reviews. Earl-Hubbard was also listed in the 2014 Best Lawyers in America for Litigation-First Amendment.

5th Avenue Theatre

The 5th Avenue Theatre hired Patrick Harrison as vice president of marketing and communications. He will oversee subscription campaigns, ticket sales, public relations, telemarketing, customer service and special projects. Harrison lived in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, where he ran P. Gringo Marketing & PR for retailers, restaurants, hotels and other entertainment activities. Before that he worked in Seattle in marketing for entertainment and retail, and was advertising director for Frederick & Nelson.
