Twenty-seven attorneys at Perkins Coie have become partners, including six in Seattle, two in Boise and one in Anchorage. In Seattle, new partners are Emily A. Bushaw (with the Labor and Employment practice), Elvira Castillo (Litigation), Ulrike “Rike” Connelly (Litigation), David A. Perez (Litigation), Holly M. Simpkins (Intellectual Property) and John “Randy” Tyler (Litigation and Privacy & Security). In Boise, new partners are Deborah V. Dunn (Trust & Estate Planning) and Joshua M. Nelson (Intellectual Property). The new partner in Anchorage is Sarah C. Gillstrom (Litigation).

Zipwhip

Zipwhip, a Seattle cloud software company for two-way business texting, appointed Alison Billings as vice president of industry development for U.S. and Paul Wheeler as vice president of industry development for Canada. Billings comes from T-Mobile, where she oversaw a strategic partnership with Google. Wheeler was vice president of client services at Impact Mobile and COO of Full Spectrum Telecommunications.

Altavair AirFinance

In Seattle, Altavair AirFinance formed a partnership with investment firm KKR to create a global portfolio of leased commercial aircraft. KKR is making a $1 billion capital commitment and acquiring 50 percent interest in Altavair, which leases aircraft to domestic and international airlines and cargo operators. Altavair also has offices in London and Singapore.

City of Tacoma

The Tacoma City Council wants to fill seven positions on the 15-member Human Rights Commission. Each member serves a three-year term. Applications are due Jan. 17. Law firm Lane Powell elected Tereza Simonyan and Jessica N. Yu as shareholders in the Seattle office, and Holly L. Johnston and William E. Weiner as shareholders in Portland. Simonyan counsels on mergers and acquisitions, entity formation, securities, corporate finance and governance, and contract negotiation. Yu assists foreign nationals in obtaining employment and investor visas, and advises domestic companies on hiring foreign employees. Johnston focuses on intellectual property. Weiner handles employment litigation, strategic HR consulting and employment agreements.

No Child Left Inside

The state is seeking applications for No Child Left Inside grants, which let at-risk kids experience the outdoors through natural resource-based education. Public agencies, tribes, nonprofits, schools and others must apply by April 1 for grants between $5,000 and $150,000. More information is at http://www.rco.wa.gov.

In Tacoma, Dr. Stan Flemming joined Swenson Healthcare as director of medical affairs. Flemming was medical director and lead regional physician in Washington state at Life Care Centers of America. Swenson Healthcare is a clinical practice serving post-acute care patients throughout the state.

The World is Fun

Seattle nonprofit The World is Fun is seeking volunteers for its Cocktail District fundraiser, March 9 at Pier 66/Bell Harbor Conference Center. Cocktail District is part of Seattle Cocktail Week. Proceeds from the event will support TWIF's efforts to get people involved in the community through events and volunteering.
