Fife's Lugo Construction has recently won several awards. It received third place for "Minority Business of the Year," as presented by the University of Washington (William D. Bradford Award) and CEO Magazine, and the Platinum STEP (Safety Training Evaluation Process) Award from the Associated Builders & Contractors of Western Washington. The Platinum STEP award was given to just seven contractors in the state. Also, company founder Adrian Lugo was recipient of the "Executive Award for Safety" for 2000 from the Puget Sound Area Construction Safety Summit.
The Northwest Division of McCarthy Building Companies has promoted Jason McKinney to project manager and hired three project engineers. McKinney's new responsibilities include formulating quantity surveys for lead estimators that summarize specific item counts to help ensure accurate bidding on a project. He joined the company last year as an estimating assistant. The new project engineers are Bill Jordan, Nancy Abell and Nicholas Terrile. Jordan recently finished a certificate program in construction management at the University of Washington and holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from the same institution. He previously worked for Boeing as a facilities analyst. Abell has over eight years of industry experience, most recently coordinating volunteers and mechanical subcontractors for Habitat for Humanity in Atlanta. She holds a bachelor's degree in building construction from Michigan State University. Terrile holds a bachelor's degree in construction management from Central Washington University.
Dr. Janelle D. Daane has relocated to Camp Dresser & McKee's Bellevue office. Daane is an environmental, civil and construction engineer with over 16 years of experience developing water supply and sanitation services, as well as disaster assistance. Daane holds a doctorate degree in engineering management from George Washington University, a master's degree in civil engineering from the University of Washington, a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, and a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of South Dakota. Camp Dresser & McKee is headquartered in Cambridge, Mass.
The Seattle Housing Authority has hired Michael E. Purdy as purchasing manager. Purdy has spent the past 21 years with the city of Seattle, including the last seven as contracting manager in the Executive Services Department. For SHA, he will be managing its purchasing, construction and consultant contracting programs. He will start his new job on Jan. 2.

Three new project engineers have been hired for Lease Crutcher Lewis' Special Projects Division. Included are: Shawn Queen, Brendon Warme and Joshua Johnson. Queen holds bachelor's degrees in architecture and urban planning from the University of Washington. His current project is a tenant improvement for Targeted Genetics. Warme recently served as an intern for the company and holds a bachelor's degree in construction management from the University of Washington. He is working on tenant improvements at the Starbucks' headquarters. Johnson is also a recent intern with a construction management degree from the UW. He is helping with Union Bay's tenant improvements.
Bentall Corp. has named John Carlson site project manager for its new Summit Office Center in Bellevue. He will work with field operations to ensure safety and quality, conduct building systems analysis, act as a site manager and interface with the construction team on three building complexes now under construction. Prior to joining Bentall, Carlson worked as a project manager for Baugh Construction and a construction manager for NT.
