Construction Center of Excellence

Hunter McInelly of Auburn Riverside High School won the first We Build Washington! construction video contest sponsored by the Construction Center of Excellence. McInelly's video profiles how he built himself a desk to use while learning from home. His effort resulted in a $2,000 scholarship. The contest is open to high school students in the state.

Commercial interior construction company Vantis opened an office in Seattle to serve the Pacific Northwest, with a primary focus on the greater Puget Sound and Spokane markets. Longtime Seattle construction industry executive Mark Conway is heading up the office as vice president of the Pacific Northwest. Conway comes from Vantis sister company OpenSquare, where he was senior vice president. Vantis specializes in corporate, technology, health care and education facility interiors using custom prefabricated components that are adaptable as user needs change. It also works with modular construction fabricators. Its California headquarters are based in Santa Clara and its Seattle operations include OpenSquare, Porter and Splice.

Emile le Roux returned to Rider Levett Bucknall's Seattle office as associate principal after spending time on a big project in Las Vegas. Le Roux has an educational background in quantity surveying, and over 29 years of national and international construction cost estimating experience, including nearly 20 years with RLB. With offices across the globe, RLB provides construction cost and project management services.

Hensel Phelps

Cummins

General contractor Hensel Phelps promoted Jared Cummins to project superintendent within its Pacific Northwest region office. Over the course of his 11-year career with the company, Cummins has worked on civic, health care and aviation projects in Washington, Northern California and Hawaii. He is currently working on Seattle-Tacoma International Airport's North Satellite modernization project. He holds a bachelor's degree in construction management from Washington State University.

Auburn Mechanical hired Roger Johnson as senior project manager. Johnson has been in the industry since 1989, as an estimator, project manager, license holder and executive. Auburn-based Auburn Mechanical is a women-owned firm specializing in mechanical design, HVAC, plumbing, fitting, refrigeration and maintenance.
