Bray

Mark Bray recently retired from Lydig Construction after nearly 30 years as a co-owner. Bray became the firm's CFO in 1994, when there were 41 employees and revenues around $60 million. Lydig now has over 170 employees and rang up nearly $375 million in revenue last year. Before joining Lydig, Bray was an accountant in Anchorage, first at Ernst & Whinney for four years and then at Martech USA for four more. Lydig's new CFO is Katie Burton, who spent the past five years as controller at the company, and the previous 15 years at Moss Adams. Bray's son Connor also works at the company, as a project engineer. Lydig has offices in Bellevue, Spokane and Kennewick.

Pacific Northwest Ironworkers Council

McClain

The Iron Workers District Council of the Pacific Northwest promoted Chris McClain to president. McClain succeeds president emeritus Steve Pendergrass, who recently announced his retirement following 42 years of service. McClain was business manager/financial secretary of Iron Workers Local 86, where he has been a member since 1999. Over his career, McClain has worked as an ironworker apprentice, journeyman ironworker, foreman, general foreman, and dispatcher. He was elected business agent in 2012 and took on the additional role of political director in 2015.

Argus Pacific

Argus Pacific transitioned its name to align with the Terracon brand. Mountlake Terrace-based Argus offers industrial hygiene consultation and training related to asbestos, lead, mold, hazardous waste, emergency response, and other occupational health and safety topics. It was bought in 2015 by Olathe, Kansas-based Terracon. Sue Maas in the Mountlake Terrace office was recently named Terracon's national leader for environmental health and safety training.

Skanska

Starting next month, general contractor Skanska is holding its free Construction Building Blocks Training Program, which provides opportunities for small, traditionally marginalized minority-owned businesses to succeed. The 10-week educational series runs March 7-May 9, with Feb. 17 as the deadline to submit applications. Participants in the program receive instruction from Skanska and industry professionals on topics such as project planning, business development, estimating and bonding. Most sessions are virtual to allow for regional participation, however two of the sessions will be held at local Skanska offices (including Seattle and Portland) with happy hours to connect with project teams and leadership. In Kirkland, Compass Construction hired Rebecca Chynoweth as executive assistant. The company also made several promotions: Dani McElwee to senior human resources generalist; Martin Gomez Matias to labor foreman; and Dan Peck, Daniel Marks, Nick Cunningham and Scott Miller to project directors. Chynoweth has over 10 years of experience in executive support, corporate marketing, communications and event planning. McElwee joined Compass in July 2021. She obtained her bachelor's degree in human resources management in 2018 and her HR certification in 2021. Gomez Matias was hired in 2015 and is working on the company's first affordable housing project, Bryant Manor. Peck, Marks, Cunningham and Miller were all previously senior project managers. Peck joined Compass in 2014 as a project engineer and has worked in the industry for 15 years. Marks was hired by the company in 2013 as a project manager. Cunningham joined Compass in 2011 as a project engineer and has been in the industry for nearly 20 years. Miller joined Compass in 2012 as a project engineer and recently completed its largest project to date — the first two phases of Yesler Terrace.

Burlington-based Trico Companies has hired Margaret Simpson as human resources manager; Andrea Pettit and Madalyn Heil as project administrators; and McKenna Lautenbach as human resources assistant. Simpson has over 15 years of HR experience in early childhood education, retail and higher education. She holds a bachelor's degree in sociology and communications from the University of Oregon. Pettit has extensive HR management experience, holds a certificate in HR management, has an active real estate license, and is a Notary Public. Heil has an HR and management background, and holds a bachelor's degree in accounting from Grand Cayman University. Lautenbach has several years of experience in recruiting, and holds a bachelor's degree in public relations from Central Washington University.
