Peter Ottele recently joined Deacon Construction in Seattle as an operations manager. Ottele has 27 years of experience, having worked both on the general contractor side and the development side of the construction industry. His past experiences include senior project manager roles with BNBuilders and Lease Crutcher Lewis, and director of development at Ryan Companies. He holds a bachelor's degree in building construction from the University of Washington, and is a LEED Accredited Professional. The company says Ottele's extensive experience in preconstruction and managing daily construction challenges is a valuable asset to the Deacon team.

Brett Myron is the new CEO of Petra, a leading general contractor operating in eight western states through regional offices in Idaho, Washington and Colorado. Myron has nearly 30 years of construction industry experience, and has spent the last 18 years with Petra. He previously held the title of president and co-owner at Petra. He began his career in 1994 as a laborer for PK Contractors in Spokane, then joined Petra in 2005 as a project manager for the Tamarack Resort project in Donnelly, Idaho. He spent 10 years in that position and then was promoted to executive vice president. He became president in 2018. He holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Washington State University.

Burlington-based Trico Companies hired Hiloni Ashra as senior project engineer. Ashra has over seven years of experience working on residential, hospitality and mixed-use projects with a heavy focus in design, preconstruction and project management. She will be working with the Food and Manufacturing Division. The company says Ashra has an architectural background, with her master's in project management from Northeastern University, making her an ideal candidate for design-build projects.
In Tacoma, APA — The Engineered Wood Association announced winners of its 2022 Safety and Health Awards. Among the many winners were Structurlam Mass Timber Corp. of Canada and Boise Cascade Wood Products of White City, Oregon. Structurlam, which won the Safest Company Award for companies with three or fewer mills, was recently bought out of bankruptcy by Mercer Mass Timber. Boise Cascade won the Division I (plywood) safety improvement award, with an 82.8% improvement in its safety record. The awards program's goal is to promote and recognize operational excellence and reduce injury and illness rates.
