TrueBlue remodeled 21,000 square feet on the 10th floor of a historic building at 1015 A St. in downtown Tacoma.

The building was originally built by Weyerhaeuser in 1910 and later remodeled in 1954 in a mid-century modern style. The employment firm wanted to preserve the modern elements while updating finishes. It also wanted to emphasize the company’s pride in its Pacific Northwest home.

Natural wood wall treatments were used to pay homage to both the Pacific Northwest and the mid-century style. Walnut wood slabs match the wall treatments and furniture, while iron and metal were used for logos, tag lines and company values. The use of wood and iron references the industrial roots of Tacoma while also creating an up-to-date and lasting design.

The large boardroom has views of the Murray-Morgan Bridge and Mount Rainier. Furniture pieces were sourced and built locally. The reception table can be traced back to a Puget Sound cypress tree.

Durable flooring was selected for high performance and easy maintenance. Interior storefront systems replaced opaque walls to maximize light throughout the space and ensure a contemporary feel.
