Masonry Institute

Fredrick Ostmann has joined the Masonry Institute of Washington as executive director. Ostmann has experience in project development, construction and architecture. He will focus on three main interests for the institute: developing and disseminating information; assisting and supporting the design and construction community; and facilitating resolution of industry-wide issues.

World of Concrete

The World of Concrete trade show is being held Jan. 20-24 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The event is the largest annual international exposition and conference focused on concrete construction. Drilling, blasting

AACE meeting

The Seattle Section of AACE International is holding a Jan. 16 dinner meeting at Latitude 47 in Seattle. The event will feature a presentation by Kelly Smith of Baugh Industrial on Access-based project management. Flagger training

The Evergreen Safety Council is offering a two-day flagger instructor certification course Jan. 16-17 at the Evergreen Safety Center (401 Pontius Ave. N., Seattle). Residential permitting

The King County Department of Development and Environmental Services is offering a Jan. 16 class to help private citizens and members of the real estate, architectural and construction professions learn how to apply for permits to build single-family homes and other small projects in unincorporated areas of the county.
