E. Kent Halvorson

Chris Gulin has joined E. Kent Halvorson of Redmond as vice president of operations. Gulin will use his 34 years of experience to oversee estimating, project management and field operations. He previously worked for 18 years with Howard S. Wright Construction.

MRJ Constructors

MRJ Constructors of Seattle has hired Brian Moore as principal and chief financial officer, and Drew Mark as a project engineer. Moore has 10 years of construction experience. He previously served as controller with Temp Control Mechanical in Portland and controller of PIC Industrial Northwest in Portland. He holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Pacific Lutheran University and is a CPA. Mark is a recent graduate of the University of Washington's Construction Management Department. He is currently working on the Atwood Pet Resort in SeaTac.

KJM & Associates

KJM & Associates, a Bellevue-based project and construction management consulting firm, has hired two employees to help out with its Sound Transit job. Edward Hamm is the document control lead and Janet Russell will provide MSC system support for Sound Transit. Hamm has been in construction management for the past six years as a document control manager and configuration control manager, and has experience in contract services. Russell brings over 14 years of experience in the high-tech industry, with eight years as a specialist in networking for system performance management, security, system troubleshooting, disaster recovery and technical support.

United Infrastructure

United Infrastructure Washington, developer of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge project, has opened a new office in Tacoma that includes technical staff for the continued development of the project. The new office is located at 1614 S. Mildred St., Suites 1-5. The telephone and fax numbers remain the same.

Design team assembly

A panel of experts will show how a design/build team is put together at a Dec. 8 seminar in Bellevue sponsored by the Associated Builders & Contractors of Western Washington. The panel will include De Leigh of DeBolte Plumbing, Adrian Lugo of Lugo Construction, Jack Rafn of Rafn Co., Michael Romine of Stickney Murphy Romine Architects, Barbara Schneider of the Capitol Hill Housing Improvement Program, and Steve Taylor of S.G. W.G. Clark

W.G. Clark Construction has promoted five project managers to senior project manager. The five are Jack Adams, Mark Glass, Tim Hoover, Jeff Moats and Steve Norman.

Adams and Moats have served the firm as both superintendents and project managers. Adams has a total of 17 years with the firm. He is currently managing the Opus IV Apartments in Bellevue, a 248-unit project. Moats has been with the firm since 1988. He is currently managing the 150-unit Fairwinds Northpointe Retirement Community in Spokane.

Glass joined the firm in 1996 with background as a project manager, owner's representative and superintendent. Most recently, he has managed several multi-family projects, and is currently managing the 600 W. Olympic Place luxury condominium on Queen Anne Hill, on which W.G. Clark is the construction manager.

Hoover has been with W.G. Clark since 1994 and has managed a variety of projects, including commercial, assisted-living and multi-family work. He is now managing the Kirkland Gateway Office Building.

Norman has been with W.G. Clark since 1994. Many of his projects with W.G. Clark have been for commercial and retail clients, as well as with long-term care. He is currently managing the buildout of Classic KING FM's new studio on Queen Anne and the Shands Family Grocer in Gold Bar.

Pankow Builders

Charles Pankow Builders has appointed Keith M. Henrickson as director of development for its new Seattle office, located at 3131 E. Madison, Ste. 202. Henrickson's main focus will be on management of preconstruction services, contract negotiations and coordination of design and construction activities for various projects. He has over 25 years of experience, and was previously with PCL Construction.

Sellen Construction

Sellen Construction has moved to a new headquarters across the alley from its old location. The new address is 227 Westlake Ave. N. The company's mailing address and phone number are the same.

ProSpec 2000

ProSpec 2000, an annual tradeshow presented by the Puget Sound Chapter of the Construction Specifications Institute, has named its co-chairs. They are Nora Vivarelli of T&A Supply and Kandace Coleman of Mannington Companies. The 2000 show will be held Feb. 29 at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center. It will feature over 125 exhibitors, six hours of CEU-qualified seminars, live demonstrations and a special presentation of major local design projects.

Sound Transit update

The Northwest Construction Consumer Council's Dec. 1 meeting will feature an update on the Sound Transit construction projects. Staff from Sound Transit will cover the following topics: current plans for the system; the design-build light-rail tunnel project; the agency's recently negotiated PLA; transit-related development; contracting opportunities; and how the system will be operated and maintained. Negotiation skills

A seminar on effective project negotiation skills will be held Dec. 8 by the Professional Engineering Practice Liaison Program at the University of Washington. Masonry design

The American Concrete Institute is offering a one-day seminar for masonry designers, engineers and specifiers on the new edition of the 530-99 Masonry Code. The seminar will help attendees understand the provisions of the code and show how to design safer, more economical masonry structures.
