Rohrs' new responsibilities include overseeing business development, pre-construction, estimating, marketing and virtual construction. He has more than 17 years of construction experience with projects ranging in size and complexity from conference centers to data centers, biotechnology, health-care and hospitality facilities.

Säzän Group added Iyad (Eddie) Shahwan to its Mechanical Engineering Division. Shahwan is a LEED-Accredited Professional and professional engineer. He has more than 18 years of mechanical engineering design and construction experience in retail, office, data centers, health-care, correctional facilities, and K-12 and higher-education projects. He is working on the mechanical design for the emergency department expansion at the Seattle VA medical center and several renovation projects for King County.

Two Cadman employees are retiring after many years of service: 31-year veteran Ed Gray and 12-year veteran Bruce Schaeffer. Gray started his local career in 1978 with Lakeside Sand and Gravel, providing sales support and later serving as sales manager. In 1990, he continued with Cadman after it bought Lakeside. Schaeffer was hired in 1998 to provide customer service for ready-mix concrete deliveries in the north end. For the past nine years, he was part of the Cadman sales team working primarily in Snohomish County.

J.R. Abbott Construction

Britton
Krista Britton joined J.R. Abbott Construction as director of marketing. Britton has more than 12 years of commercial real estate and construction marketing experience. She is responsible for marketing in the firm's Los Angles, Portland and Seattle offices.

MBA, APA

The Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties and the Puget Sound Section of the Washington Chapter of the American Planning Association recognized two area government officials and a city planning department for their leadership. Public Employee of the Year awards were given to Burien's Community Development Director Scott Greenberg and Marysville's Community Development Director Gloria Hirashima. An Outstanding Performance by a Department award was given to the city of Auburn's Community Development Department. The award program was created to honor public employees who best exemplify the spirit of seeking meaningful solutions to the challenges presented by growth while maintaining responsible environmental stewardship.

APWA, WAPA

The city of SeaTac's Department of Public Works Engineering Division won the 2008 Best City Paving Project for Western Washington award from the American Public Works Association and Washington Asphalt Paving Association. The city and its contractor, Tucci & Sons, were nominated for the award for an improvement project to Military Road between South 176th and 188th streets.

Canyon Creek Cabinet Co.

Employees of Canyon Creek Cabinet Co. contributed $5,324 and more than 170 pounds of food to the Sky Valley Food Bank. The Monroe-based company made the donation just before Thanksgiving. It also donated wood to a local group of toy makers, who are making about 200 items — including puzzles, pull-toys and wooden animals — to give to a local women's shelter this month.
