In response to industry demand, the Construction Industry Training Council of Washington has developed an array of green building courses for workers and contractors, including a prep class for the Green Advantage exam. Other green classes offered cover solar panels and solar hot water systems.
Diana Painter opened a second office of Painter Preservation & Planning in Spokane. The historic preservation firm was founded by Painter in the Bay Area in 2002, where it maintains an office. Painter holds a doctorate degree in architecture, a master's degree in urban planning and urban design, and a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary design. Her qualifications meet federal guidelines in architectural history, and she also is a certified planner.
Skanska USA's building unit recognized six national suppliers at its inaugural Supplier-of-Choice Awards recently held in Phoenix. Northwest winners include MacDonald-Miller Facility Solutions of Seattle and Alliant Systems of Beaverton, Ore. Suppliers were ranked in safety, sustainable practices, quality, schedule, third-tier management, diversity, internal training programs and innovation.

Snyder Roofing won a 2010 CNA Leadership in Safety Award. Snyder was recognized for developing a safety culture in its operations and its participation in CNA training programs. Both Snyder Roofing of Oregon and Snyder Roofing of Washington will receive the award during each company's safety meetings in May. CNA is a large commercial insurer.
The Associated General Contractors of America gave Sicklesteel Cranes a Construction Safety Excellence Award during the association's national convention in March. Sicklesteel took first place in its specialty division category. The awards recognize companies that have developed premier safety and loss prevention programs, and showcase companies that have achieved continuous improvements and maintenance of their safety and health management systems.
The AGC of America honored its Washington chapter for “Best Overall Public Relations Campaign” in 2009. The award was presented during the recent national convention in Orlando, Fla., and recognizes the chapter's “Member Centered – Value Driven” campaign.
