Public Storage — South Lake Union

Public Storage's 130,000-square-foot building includes part of a structure in Seattle's South Lake Union area that used to be a Ford truck assembly plant.
The brick, glass and terracotta building opened in 1913 as a Model "T" truck assembly plant. To preserve the historic nature, the brick facade was restored and incorporated into the design.
A new five-story, neutral gray building was designed to be modest and restrained. Inside is an intricate steel skeleton with massive shear components, multiple elevator shafts, 25-foot-high retaining walls, and 1,200 storage units.
