VA Puget Sound has opened a six-story, 220,000-square-foot building on its Beacon Hill campus in Seattle.

The $121.6 million mental health and research building expands the hospital's outpatient mental health services and consolidates most of its research programs in a central location.

Around 450 people will occupy the new building, including 275 researchers and 170 mental health staff.

Mental health care services range from medication management to family therapy. The building will also house a prosthetic lab so patients can be fitted and receive their prostheses in one location.

The project is targeting LEED certification, with sustainable elements such as passive systems, solar shading, operable windows, natural daylighting, green roofs and rainwater harvesting.
