February 1, 2002
SEATTLE -- The 2002 Northwest Flower and Garden Show opens on Wednesday, Feb. 6, boasting 8 acres of displays, seminars and exhibits at the Washington State Convention and Trade Center.
Nearly 100 more exhibitor spaces have been created, featuring additions such as a garden club competition, a specialty nursery plant sales area and a new plant introduction area.
The show gardens will clue you in to the latest trends in style and plantings, and show off the broad and varied talents of the Northwest's best landscape designers. Twenty-eight garden creators will explore such themes as a plant explorer's garden, kaleidoscope, prehistoric, Native American and classic Northwest garden.
Top horticulturists from around the world will also be on hand to offer more than 100 seminars and hands-on demonstrations. Topics include growing wine grapes in Western Washington, creating garden rooms, ideas from classic Chinese gardens, dry shade gardening, making compost, city kitchen gardens, bamboo gardens and drip irrigation systems.
The exhibition runs through Sunday, Feb. 10. Admission is $18 at the door, $15 in advance. Other passes are available. Call (206) 789-5333 for information. The Washington State Convention and Trade Center is at Seventh Avenue and Pike Street.
