"Birthday Girl" has sat on the shelf since September 2000. Normally this is not a good sign. But the movie stars Nicole Kidman, who's coming off the best year of her career.
That'll probably attract people to movie theaters for a couple of weekends -- until word gets out that, despite engaging performances from Kidman -- who's already won a Golden Globe for "Moulin Rouge" and is considered a serious Oscar contender for "The Others" -- and co-star Ben Chaplin, "Birthday Girl" is mostly inconsistent, and has some nagging plot holes.
