Caine in fine form as a cynical hack

"The Quiet American" is the first film that Michael Caine shot after winning his second Academy Award in March 2000 for "The Cider House Rules."

And with its belated release scheduled to position Caine in the Oscar sweepstakes again, the actor should be in the hunt with his performance as one of Graham Greene’s most sardonic characters. (After its brief New York and Los Angeles stint in November, the movie is now being re-released nationally to capitalize on hoped-for awards momentum.)
