At the Movies: 'Ladder' generates flames but offers little heat

By DAVID GERMAIN
AP Movie Writer

"Ladder 49" poses the question: What makes firefighters run into burning buildings when everyone else is running out?

Unfortunately, "Ladder 49" could have a similar effect: Firefighters may rush into theaters to catch it, while everyone else flees this well-intentioned but deadly dull dramatic tribute.

LADDER 49

Director: Jay Russell

Cast: Joaquin Phoenix, John Travolta, Jacinda Barrett, Robert Patrick, Morris Chestnut, Balthazar Getty and Billy Burke

Rating: PG-13, for intense fire and rescue situations and for language

Running time: 115 minutes
