Landscape designers say they hope to give Seattle a 'civic heart'

With the goal of creating inviting, intimate yet public spaces, the landscape designers for Seattle's new municipal campus on Friday outlined their preliminary ideas for a project they hope will become the "civic heart of the city."

Described as a work in progress, their plans include cascading staircases that also serve as amphitheater-like seating areas, waterfalls and water jets that use reclaimed rainwater, and spaces that would accommodate public demonstrations as well as host smaller gatherings and performances.
