City Hall Plaza celebrates Northwest

From its red-paneled sun wall to its dancing water jets, the City Hall Civic Plaza will reflect many elements that make the Northwest unique, according to designers.

Schematic designs for the City Hall Plaza show a bank of red doors leading to the Cultural Cafe and retail, as well as a staircase leading from the corner of Fourth and James to the lobby.

Seattle's new living room will combine what designers call a "ceremonial staircase" to enter City Hall from Fourth Avenue with a plaza enticing people to take in the dancing water show or walk past hinged red doors to the Cultural Cafe.
