Harris Group

Chris L. Thompson has been named CEO of the consulting engineering firm Harris Group Inc. Former CEO Bob Harris, who has held executive leadership positions since the Seattle-based company's foundation as Schuchart & Associates in 1975, remains chairman of the board.

Named president of Harris Group in the spring of 2000, Thompson immediately announced plans for a restructuring into five market sector-focused business units. In 2001, its first full year under the new structure, Harris Group's domestic revenues were a record high $45.1 million despite downturns in four of five market sectors it serves.

"Like everybody else, we took our lumps in 2001 -- but the energy sector saved us," Thompson said.

With Harris Group since 1989, Thompson was chief financial officer prior to becoming president. He joined the company as one of three co-founders of the Denver office (which has grown to 140 people). Based in Seattle, Harris Group has nine offices in the U.S. and a sister company, AO Harris Group International, in St. Petersburg, Russia.
