Seattle-based Merrill Gardens, owner of 66 assisted-living retirement communities in 14 states, will break ground on Merrill Gardens at Queen Anne at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The 225-unit project the largest in company history is on Fourth Avenue North between Aloha and Valley streets, site of the former Seattle School District headquarters. At the ceremony, Merrill Gardens will present a total of $44,000 to three groups: the Queen Anne Community Center Senior Program, the Queen Anne Help Line and Seattle Housing Resources Group. Runberg Architecture Group of Seattle designed Merrill Gardens at Queen Anne, and SRM Development of Spokane is the contractor and an investment partner. Project cost is $37 million. Construction is to be done in 2006.
