Perkins+Will’s Seattle office has applied for LEED platinum for its new office at Second and University downtown. The firm said it hopes to have the first LEED commercial interiors platinum rating on the West Coast.
“As proponents of sustainable architecture and ardent supporters of LEED, it was important to us that our workspace reflect our ethos, with exceedingly green, high quality design,” said Kay Kornovich, a Seattle principal. Samis Land Co. which operates the building, provided 50 percent of the funding for the building’s improved glazing and mechanical systems.
The firm replaced a central electric HVAC reheat system with multizone perimeter heating, minimized partitioning and maximized ceiling height. Daylight and views are provided to all workspaces and automatic daylight dimming controls were installed. Ninety-percent of construction waste was recycled and 40 percent of materials came from local companies.
In August, Building + Construction Magazine reported Perkins+Will has the highest number of LEED accredited professionals of any North American architectural firm.
