Runberg Architecture Group received an American Institute of Architects “Show You’re Green” award for excellence in affordable green housing on the Denny Park Apartments.
The low-income apartments, located at 230 Eighth Ave. N., satisfy 159 items on the Seattle Built Green certification checklist for sustainable design. It has the first water planters to be built in Seattle for storm water detention.
The project uses 50-year materials including metal siding, standing seam metal roofing, fiber cement siding and concrete. Durable concrete pavers were used for the raised courtyard and smaller balconies are made of recycled plastic and wood composite decking.
