Found objects become furniture

The BAM show of Gord Peteran's work runs through Dec. 9.

The Bellevue Arts Museum’s current exhibition spotlights craftsman Gord Peteran’s work over the past 25 years. Peteran’s projects range from tables, cabinets and doors to large-scale public art, many of which are made from found objects.

Based in Toronto, Peteran began his career as a furniture maker, woodworker and metalworker as a teenager employed in a furniture restoration shop. By combining found objects with conceptual design and fine craftsmanship, Peteran creates unique works of art that he calls “furnitural,” his own word that refers to the sculptural aspect of his work.

The exhibition runs through Dec. 9 and is organized by the Milwaukee Art Museum.
