The U.S. Green Building Council is seeking public comments on its LEED for Neighborhood Development rating system. The program is the first national certification system for green neighborhood design and development.
LEED for Neighborhood Development is a collaboration between the USGBC, the Congress for the New Urbanism and the Natural Resources Defense Council. It integrates smart growth, new urbanism and green building. USGBC began pilot testing LEED ND in early 2007, and accepted nearly 240 pilot projects in 39 states and six countries. The rating system will evaluate projects on criteria such as location, linkage to the community, green construction and green technology.
Public comments may be made until Jan. 5, 2009. To view the LEED ND draft and submit comments online, go to: http://tiny.cc/4J3XI
