Old homes and old rocks are the themes of two Seattle tours in August.
At 5:30 p.m. on Aug. 4, Seattle Architecture Foundation presents a 90-minute walking tour of downtown Seattle that will examine stone from around the world that is used in different buildings.
Author David B. Williams will lead the tour. It begins at the Pioneer Square pergola at First Avenue and James Street. After the tour, Williams will answer questions and sign copies of his newest book, “Stories in Stone: Travels Through Urban Geology,” at the foundation’s gallery in Suite 300 at 1333 Fifth Ave.
Advance tickets are $15. For more information or to register, see seattlearchitecture.org, or contact Roberta Miner at (206) 667-9184 or roberta@seattlearchitecture.org.
Historic Seattle and the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation will give tours of two historic First Hill homes, the 1907 Dearborn House and 1899 Stimson-Green Mansion, at 1 p.m. Aug. 11.
The tours will cover the architecture and interior design as well as First Hill neighborhood at the turn of the 20th century, when it was home to private clubs, important religious institutions, swank hotels and gracious homes.
Tours begin at the Dearborn House, 1117 Minor Ave. Registration is required and can be made at historicseattle.org or by calling (206) 622-6952. The cost is $25 for Historic Seattle and foundation members and $30 for non-members.
