HDR hired Phil Duff as vice president and managing principal of the architecture office in Seattle. Duff will oversee operations and business development, and design of health care, science, technology and civic projects in the Northwest. He has 27 years in the industry, most recently as a health care studio practice leader for NBBJ in Seattle. Marjorie Brown, who previously was managing principal of HDR's Seattle office, continues as health care principal, responsible for expanding HDR's presence in health architecture and design in the Northwest. HDR has 190 offices globally. It provides architecture or engineering in some offices, and both services in others. The Seattle architecture office was started in 2006 to support international design work. For the first few years, it provided design support for Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi Hospital in the United Arab Emirates. Since then it has designed a number of local projects, including the new VA Puget Sound ER in Seattle.
