Officials from the Washington State Convention Center have named the three teams on the shortlist for designing the center's proposed one-million-square-foot expansion.
Here are the teams: ZGF/Populous, TVS/Callison and LMN/GGN/SHoP.
The expansion would nearly double the size of the center with construction on the site bounded by Pine, Howell, Ninth and Boren.
An architect will be picked by early November. Construction is slated to begin in 2017 and be finished in 2020, and cost between $650 million and $700 million.
Current plans call for part of the expansion to be built underground. There may be “co-development opportunities” for a hotel, office space or housing.
