Historic Seattle is restoring the performance and event spaces in Washington Hall at 153 14th Ave. in the Central District.

The Danish Brotherhood constructed the building in 1908. The city landmark has been a gathering place, social club and meeting hall for immigrants, and has hosted performers such as Billie Holiday and Jimi Hendrix.

Historic Seattle purchased the building in 2009 and is doing a $9.9 million multi-year rehabilitation.

The latest work is part of phase three, which is expected to be complete in 2016. It will restore interior finishes and the main event spaces: Lodge Room and Main Hall.

An elevator will be installed. Americans with Disabilities Act compliance, life safety improvements and a seismic retrofit will be done. A catering kitchen and small cafe will be added.

Team members for this $3.5 million phase include Ron Wright & Associates/Architects, Rushing, Coughlin Porter Lundeen, and Lydig Construction.
