Marvin Stein Associates is acquired by Nelson

Nelson, a Philadelphia-based architecture firm, has acquired Marvin Stein Associates in Seattle.

Terms of the deal for the 37-year-old design firm were not released.

Nelson has a 10-person office in Seattle that will combine with Marvin Stein's 16-person office and operate as Marvin Stein Associates, a Nelson Company. It will be headed by Marvin Stein principal Steve Navarro and Mia Marshall, a principal in Nelson's Seattle office.

Nelson said in a press release that Galen Holden, a longtime principal at Marvin Stein, is retiring after more than 30 years with the company.

In January 2015, Nelson acquired Seattle-based EHS Design. Both EHS and Marvin Stein specialize in tenant improvements and interior architecture for commercial buildings in the Puget Sound region.

Nelson provides architecture and interior design. It said the acquisitions will help it get more tenant improvement jobs and offer more services in the West.

Nelson said it works with over 20 percent of companies in the Fortune 100. The firm said its interior design practice is ranked by Interior Design Magazine in the top 10 overall interior “Design Giants,” and in the top five for firms focused on workplace design.

Nelson is owned by Minneapolis-based holding company NWH, which owns architecture, engineering and interior design firms that serve corporations and institutions globally. NWH has nearly 600 employees in 28 offices in U.S. cities.
