Town Hall Seattle will present a talk by Randy Shaw, author of “Generation Priced Out: Who Gets to Live in the New Urban America” at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at The Summit on Pike at 420 E. Pike St. in Seattle.
Shaw is director of the Tenderloin Housing Clinic in San Francisco, which provides housing for homeless single adults. His book is a call to action on how skyrocketing prices are pushing working and middle class people out of urban areas.
He says baby boomer homeowners restrict millennials' access to housing in big cities, and he criticizes cities for advancing policies that increase economic and racial inequality. He says gentrification is not inevitable, and there are ways for cities to preserve and expand their working- and middle-class populations.
