In Seattle, structural and civil engineering firm Magnusson Klemencic Associates promoted Mike Jewsbury and Sean Clifton to senior principal and Russell Larsen to principal. Jewsbury is design leader of MKA's healthcare specialist group. His portfolio includes stand-alone hospitals, new patient towers on existing campuses, and seismic retrofits of fully occupied, Level 2 trauma centers and other essential facilities. He was hired in 2000 and his projects have included University of Washington Medicine Lake Union, Phases 2, 3.1 and 3.2, in Seattle; Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Hospital in Columbus, and BC Children's Hospital TECK Acute Care Centre in Vancouver, B.C. Clifton's work includes residential towers and large, mixed-use developments that involve multiple building typologies and construction materials. He was hired in 2008 and his projects have included the JW Marriott Charlotte Hotel in Charlotte, N.C.; Bank of Philippine Islands Headquarters in Makati, Metro Manila, Philippines, and Marriott Marquis at McCormick Place in Chicago. Larsen has designed office and housing projects in the U.S., often in high seismicity regions. As a task force member of the Applied Technology Council 58 project, he is helping to develop guidelines for seismic performance assessment of buildings and Performance-Based Seismic Design. An MKA employee since 2003, his projects have included Salesforce Tower in San Francisco; River Point Tower in Chicago; and SkyRise Miami in Miami.
