The new bridge, spanning SR 162, is years in the making.

A new pedestrian bridge is to be built near Rocky Road Northeast in Orting, about 20 miles east of Tacoma. The bridge will help children and community members cross over state Route 162 safely and would play a role in the city's evacuation route if a major lahar or flooding event was to occur. The bridge will start from the Foothills Trail and end near Rocky Road.
