Seattle's storied Panama Hotel awarded landmark status

The landmark status means that both the hotel’s historic exterior and interiors are now protected.

The Panama Hotel, at 605 S Main Street in the city's historic Japan Town, has been awarded landmark status from Seattle's Landmarks Preservation Board. For many, this may seem like a long time coming as the hotel has clear historical significance and is already part of the International Special Review District in addition to being designated a national historic landmark since 2006. Being placed on the National Register of Historic Places is the highest honor a historic property can receive.
