Affordable housing development Africatown Plaza to break ground

The project is intented to be a cultural anchor for the African community in the rapidly changing Central District.

Community Roots Housing announced that it will break ground on Africatown Plaza on Feb. 5. Africatown Plaza is mixed-use affordable housing project developed in partnership with Africatown Community Land Trust. The project, at 1100 23rd Ave in the Central District, will see the creation of 126 affordable homes and about 2,000 square-feet of office and 2,500 square-feet of retail space, intended for small local businesses. The project also includes an activated public plaza with a community stage, water feature, and public art. The 7-story development will be the new headquarters for Africatown CLT. Total project size is estimated at 105,500 square feet.
