Earlier this month, a 21-foot-tall carved wooden sculpture known as the “Soul Pole” was reinstalled on the front lawn of Seattle Public Library's Douglass-Truth branch in the Central District. The art work represents 400 years of African American History and was carved in 1969 by six artists associated with Seattle Rotary Boys Club. It was gifted to the library in 1972 and installed at the branch in 1973.
