The smokestack sits on the banks of Carlisle Lake Park.

A 100+ year old smokestack in Onalaska has been added to the Washington Heritage Register. The approximately 225-foot-tall chimney is one of the only remaining remnants of the Carlisle Lumber Company Mill that operated in the area from 1916-1942. The site of the stack is presently a privately-owned but publicly accessible park. The Heritage Register nomination was led by a not-for-profit group, called Onalaska Alliance, that manages the park. The exact construction date of the smokestack is not known but it was built as part of an electric-generating steam plant that was added to power the mill around 1920. When the mill shut down some 22 years later the stack was not torn down.
