Renovated Salem Public Library is a brutalist structure with a welcoming core

The brutalist building opened in 1972.

Last summer, a renovated and improved Salem Public Library reopened to patrons following 10 months of work. Project architect Hacker Architects said the renovations have both updated and humanized the brutalist, 96,000-square-foot public building that dates back to 1972.
